Arriving At Inis Oirr

Want to speak Irish like a native?
The place to come is the Aran Islands. There are 30 Irish language learning centres in the Gaeltacht, under the auspices of Údarás na Gaeltachta. These are the only accredited certificate courses available to people learning Irish and are graded to suit all abilities. Comharchumann Inis Oírr. Inis Oírr,. Árainn,. Aran Wildlife and Green Roof project......

cindi-flowers.jpgThatch was always used to roof Aran cottages and farm buildings but today only a few buildings like our cottage and the famous Synge's Cottage museum remain "under the thatch." We are now restoring a 150 year old building and installing a living wildlife roof of Inis Meain wild flowers and plants - Aran has an abundance of wildlife with some 437 varieties of wild flowers.. Watch the progress as our neighbour Sean sympathetically restores this ancient dwelling using locally sourced materials to make a snug environmentally friendly room that one day soon will be a studio, library, retreat and low carbon hideaway. Watch the wildlife roof grow here
